About

TeaHaus is a privately owned small business by Lisa McDonald and her husband Marc Hewko. After a small ‘backpacking trip’ though Europe which became a 14-year residence in Germany and Sweden, Lisa returned to the US with her husband, Marc (an Ann Arborite she met in Germany) to start a family. After a few months though, she began to miss getting quality loose tea in any village she visited.

Inspired to open TeaHaus, Lisa chose to work with Europe’s most reputable and highest-quality tea company, located in Germany for her tea. They are the only tea company that has their own testing facility testing for both pesticides and heavy metals residues.  Also, the company does not use tea brokers or buy tea in the markets. They go straight to source, the gardens. Germany is the world’s largest tea purchasing country and has the a long standing tie with the tea world.

Our mission at TeaHaus is to provide experience and education along with the highest quality tea available on the market.

We now carry around 200 loose teas, from varieties of tea by region and picking/flush, and those teas blended with fruits, herbals, and the occasional natural extract. Several of our teas are certified organic but regardless of certification, each tea has been tested 4 times over for purity.
At TeaHaus, we also stock a unique and interesting collection of teaware and tea preparation tools to make the tea you take home something personal and special. The staff working at TeaHaus is exceptionally knowledgeable and experienced with the teas they sell, including recommendations and their own blends. If Lisa, Marc, “Big” Andrew or one of the kids — Andrew or Timothy — can’t help you in person, we hope that you find our website informative and easy to order tea. You can call or email us with any question you may have and we’ll be happy to help.
